Professional Conduct

As a Gladue Writer, you are a member of a unique an important group that is working to change the landscape of the Criminal Justice System in Canada.  Gladue Writers seek to advance Restorative and Healing options for Indigenous offenders, reducing the need for reliance on custody as an option.

While the Gladue Writers Society of British Columbia, along with other organizations, are working towards professional standards and oversight for Gladue Writers, there remains no national standards for Gladue Writers.

Consequently, it is up to individual writers to maintain a personal code of conduct, based in professionalism, honesty and integrity.

To date, in British Columbia, the work of Gladue Report Writers has gained the respect of Provincial and Superior Courts, due in large part to the work of the Legal Services Society roster of Gladue Report Writers.  These writers, through education, training and experience in the field, hold themselves to the highest level of standards.

Do NOT attempt to write a Gladue Report without training.  Doing so could harm not only the subject of the Report, but the reputation of Gladue Writers as a whole, in addition to the utility of Gladue Reports in the future.
